Abstract

Sound is often overlooked or underestimated in all forms of filmmaking. That’s a shame because like George Lucas says; “Sound is 50 percent of the moviegoing experience, and I’ve always believed audiences are moved and excited by what they hear in my movies at least as much as by what they see”. It’s the same for VR, sound can contribute to the experience just as much as the visual does. In this talk I will give a brief practical overview of the audio technologies and spatial audio techniques available for VR production and consider the role of sound in these new immersive media forms.
