The?Harewood?Library?Table?was?built?for?Edwin?Lascelles?(1713??1795)?26in?1772.27??Lascelles? had?it?built?as?part?of?a?project?to?update?property?that?he?had?inherited?from?his?father? Henry?Lascelles?(1690?1753).??He?was?typical?of?the?English?aristocracy?of?the?time;?his?father? had?made?his?fortune?from?plantations?in?the?Americas?(specifically?in?the?West?Indies),? Following?a?good?education?which?included?the?best?schools?(Trinity?College,?Cambridge),?he? spent?time?in?the?military,?undertook?a?Grand?Tour?between?1744?and?1755?and?eventually? he?entered?politics.???Lascelles?was?originally?only?inherited?the?estate?of?Gawthrope?(which? included?Harewood)?but?following?the?death?of?his?brother,?he?also?inherited?the?lucrative? West?Indies?plantations.?This?enabled?him?to?commission?the?present?Harewood?House? (completed?1771)?and?to?furnish?it?fashionable?style?of?the?day.28??To?do?this?he?employed?a?
