Abstract

This pocket-sized publication Every Landscape Is a State of Mind, was produced to accompany And Then the World Changed Colour: Breathing Yellow, which was commissioned specially by Dulwich Picture Gallery as part of the Harald Sohlberg: Painting Norway exhibition. The latest in Mariele Neudecker's celebrated 'Tanks' series, Breathing Yellow takes inspiration from Norway's dense forests to create a three dimensional living landscape submerged under water. Inspired by the rich colours Sohlberg used in his paintings and intense yellow light of Dulwich Picture Gallery's mausoleum - in which it is exhibited - the tank is an immersive experience which evolves at different times of the day, responding to the light which surrounds it. Every Landscape Is a State of Mind contains illustrated essays from Greer Crawley, lecturer in Scenography at Royal Holloway, University of London and Spatial Design at Buckinghamshire New University, and Kathleen Soriano, curator of Harald Sohlberg: Painting Norway.
